Stamp on Swati Tirunal

The Department of Posts issued a commemorative postage stamp on Swati Tirunal Rama Varma (popularly known as Swati Tirunal) on 2 May 1988. The stamp was released at Trivandrum (Tiruvanantapuram) by Maharani Lakshmi Bayi of the royal family of the erstwhile Travancore State, on the opening day of an eleven-day music and dance festival. The festival was organised by Swati Tirunal Sangita Sabha of Trivandrum to celebrate the 175th birthday of the royal composer. (A report on the festival was published in Sruti 47 - August 1988. The 60 paise stamp is in magenta colour, with perf. 13 x 13. It was printed by photogravure process on indigenous unwater-marked PG Matt coated stamp paper at the India Security Press, Nashik.
