Launch of Tapas - Malaysia
TAPAS Malaysia was launched on Sunday, 28th July 2024, at the Kanagasabai Hall, The Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur. The event was officiated by well-known dancer Datuk Ramli Ibrahim and was held under the auspices of Suresh Vaidyanathan, a renowned multi-percussionist from Chennai, India, and the creator of the TAPAS brand.
Suresh Vaidyanathan, known for his expertise as a ghatam artist, has gained a reputation for his versatility in performing across both classical and contemporary stages worldwide.
TAPAS Malaysia is the first ghatam school to be established in Malaysia, catering to the larger Southeast Asian region. This initiative was spearheaded by the school's director, Karthik Krishnasamy, an IT professional and a prominent performer in the Malaysian Indian classical music scene. His dedication to promoting the ghatam, a Carnatic percussive instrument, is evident through his efforts in establishing this school.
In conjunction with the launch, a rhythm workshop titled ‘Laya Logue’ was organised earlier in the day at the same venue. The 2.5-hour workshop, facilitated by Suresh Vaidyanathan, provided an opportunity for rhythm enthusiasts, musicians, dancers, and percussion lovers to engage closely with the artist. The evening featured performances by leading Malaysian Carnatic music practitioners.
The event was organised by TAPAS Malaysia in collaboration with Thrive Talent Tank, a leading talent management company and concert organiser in Malaysia.
