Indo-French Reflection Group celebrates 35th Anniversary

The Indo-French Reflection Group commemorated its 35th anniversary with a musical evening titled Ragas for Healing and Music for Well-being, held in the presence of esteemed guests including Varsha Nimbalkar, First Secretary at the Embassy of India, and Mr John Collemallay and Maguy Ragot-Villard, Deputy Mayors of the Municipality of Buc, near Versailles.

The President of the Association, Lalitha Badrinath, inaugurated the evening with an insightful address on the therapeutic dimensions of music, drawing from the pioneering work of Argentinian psychiatrist and music therapist, Rolando Omar Benenzon. She introduced the audience to Benenzon’s concept of 'ISO' or Sound Identity, particularly the Family ISO—a unique sonic footprint shaped by a group’s energy, rhythm, and silence. In her talk, she traced the application of ISO in intercultural contexts and underlined the profound influence of Indian classical music on psychological and physiological well-being.

The Association’s hallmark Lecture and Demonstration format was carried forward by Akilandeshwari (Carnatic group) and Namita Misra (Hindustani group), who elucidated music’s role in fostering emotional balance, concentration, and spiritual introspection.

The Carnatic ensemble performed a selection of compositions. Traditional hymns such as Manthiram avathu neeru (Tevram) and Irumalu roga (Tirupugazh) added devotional depth to the evening. A standout moment was the performance by 12-year-old Anugrah Chandramouli, whose rendition of Dikshitar’s Narasimha agacha in Mohanam displayed his maturity.
