Dikshitar Kshetra Darisanam

The birth anniversary of the great vaggeyakara Muttuswami Dikshitar (24 March 1775) was marked with quiet celebration as Guruguhaamrta launched the ninth episode of Dikshitar Kshetra Darshanam, focusing on the Thiruvarur kshetram and the kriti Thyagaraja Mahadhvajaroha.

Musician G. Ravikiran, the founder of the organisation, opened proceedings with heartfelt acknowledgements, thanking the young production team for their tireless work behind the scenes, mridangam vidwan Arun Prakash for performing in some of the songs and composing the opening theme for earlier episodes, and VSP Gayathri Sivani and Anirudh Athreya for their musical contributions to this episode. Historian and scholar Madhusoodhanan Kalaichelvan has offered expert commentary for this episode. He also reflected on Dikshitar's compositions, describing them as a true eclectic mix of sangita, sahitya, vedanta, and sthala purana, calling them an 18th-century Wikipedia on kshetrams. A preview excerpt from the episode was then screened for the audience.

Guest of honour, vidwan Vijay Siva followed with a speech that resonated deeply with the rasika gathering. He spoke of Dikshitar as a figure who embodied many roles at once — elucidator, historian, astrologer, Sanskrit scholar, and a bhakta. What seemed to move him most was the effortlessness of it all. Dikshitar never seemed to labour over his compositions; they simply flowed, as though arriving from a source beyond the ordinary. Citing Dikshitar's own Todi kriti, Kamalambike, in which the composer urges rasikas to savour every dimension of a composition, Vijay Siva said that Dikshitar Kshetra Darshanam is fulfilling exactly what Dikshitar wanted. He also appreciated the effort the team must have invested in gaining temple permissions to give audiences such an intimate, educative experience.

Ravikiran concluded the event, leaving the gathering with renewed reverence for the composer and the work being done by Guruguhaamrta in his name.
