Where Bala made her debut

20 January 2012. It was a Friday in
the auspicious month of Tai. I had an
opportunity to visit Sri Amanakshi
Amman temple in Kanchipuram, a
little shrine which has a connection
with my late guru T. Balasaraswati.
It was in the temple precincts that
Bala had her arangetram at the age of
eight, in the presence of Kanchipuram
Naina Pillai.
This temple is mentioned by stalwarts
in many writings on and her art.
My ardent wish to visit the temple
was recently fulfilled when all of a
sudden Prof. Annadurai, a native of
Kanchipuram got in touch with me.
