Disturbing trends in dance
The choice of programmes by many organisers tended towards popular appeal and commercial focus, rather than providing a soul-lifting, aesthetic experience. Monotony, and saturation marked many performances structured to suit the time-bound needs of the organisers and tastes of the rasika-s.
Young dancers
seem to spend more time and money in self promotion
and the ‘sponsor culture’.
Some young, up-and-coming dancers showed competence
and enthusiasm to work hard, but it is a moot point
whether their understanding of the art form is aimed
towards its higher values. Some of them are bound by
their own choice of role models.
