Kalakshetra Choir

On 28 February 2024, Kalakshetra
Foundation launched its own choir - Kalakshetra
Carnatic Choir. The musicians dressed in elegant attire embarked on a
harmonious journey under the direction of the conductors. The tunes of Budalur
Krishnamurthy Sastri for slokas - Hayagreeva apasme, Tvameva mata, Manikya veena and other
slokas practised in Kalakshetra, set the backdrop of an experience that
transcended mere entertainment.
The presentation was named Gita Kala Samanvayam, a symphony honouring Rukmini Devi
Arundale's 120th Birth Anniversary.
The blend of voices and instruments created a beautiful and emotional atmosphere. The items performed included
a mallari, Tyagaraja’s Nada tanumanisham in Chittaranjani, Raja raja radhite amongst others. Each member brought their distinct
sound, making a captivating symphony that deeply moved those who experienced it. Compositions
of stalwarts like Mysore Vasudevacharya, Papanasam Sivan, Harikesanallur
Muthaiah Bhagavathar, and Tiger Varadhachari were also presented.
This endeavour brought forth talents of the past and present – alumni and distinguished faculty and specially invited artists who had united to celebrate the grandeur of Kalakshetra and its founder, Rukmini Devi Arundale through the choir.
