sampad and mac present LAYA PROJECT:
THE FILM Venue: Theatre, mac at 8pm
Six shores sharing one ocean, one sky and one language of survival and music. On December 26 2004, the Asian tsunami devastated communities across the regions of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar and India. Following the disaster, Laya Project worked with musicians across these areas, recording the folk songs and lives of these resilient people. The result is Laya Project: The Film, a personal and collective tribute to the tsunami survivors and a musical journey which crosses borders. Recorded almost entirely on location, the film is much like a series of music videos with amazing imagery, coming together to tell the story of the human spirit. Winner of the Best Documentary at the New York Independent Film Festival 2007. There will be a post-screening discussion with director/producer Yotam Agam from Earthsync.
